Harbor freight tools are they good
That said, there are lots of pros who buy stuff at Harbor Freight, especially consumables like gloves and blades… and for cheap tools they can lend out at jobsites with no expectation of return. If they use it enough to break it, then go for it. If not, then they saved the cost of the more expensive name brand. For regular HF customers this is standard operating procedure. HF has an excellent return policy though, with very few to no questions asked. Also they have a life time trade in policy on hand tools.
Anytime I buy one I buy at least one extra battery. That really speeds up assembly. This one comes from DetroitTom in Tractorbynet forum …. They may have been a little to aggressive with building their business model around unsustainable advantages!
I went through and identified all the good, bad and abysmal tools as described by woodworkers, metal workers, mechanics, farmers, DIYers, gardeners and even pond tenders. Keep in mind that an abysmal band saw for a woodworker may just be a good band saw for a farmer.
When possible I included the item number. I put any relevant quotes in parenthesis. Dead Blow Hammer : 3. People really rip on this one.
It was jamming on me for a while. I kept trying to oil up the hammer, but it would jam again. Capacity Lightweight Aluminum Racing Jack : 3. Harbor Freight 2. It is used almost daily to air up tires and works great with my nailer and sprayer. Recommend rethreading and using graded nut. Sledge Hammer with Hickory Handle. Tools are fun! Harbor Freight is a good company to work for. You will work hard though! It's incredibly busy all the time because customers love it. It's impossible to keep the shelves stocked so you often have a few people who are asking for help at the same time.
Some employees don't due their part which makes it hard. I respect my manager. She works hard and is supportive and appreciative. That is important to me. Their benefits are top notch! The pay is competitive, with plenty of opportunity to grow with the company. Over all, other than being spread a little thin sometimes.

Been here a a month and looking to leave. I was hired as a part time employee and am receiving full time hours without the benefits. Have been scheduled for 8 hour shift turnover when promised 10 through training. I've been given shifts as short as 3 hours 45 minutes and as long as 10 hours 15 mins and I approved none of it. In training you're promised no less than 4 hours end of story and no more than 8 without your approval.
I've been denied lunchbreaks 5 hours into a shift and told by my supervisor that I could not leave work even though I was already there past the end of my shift. Cons Aweful sheduling. Thank you for your continued hard work in Dunwoody, GA and we look forward to watching you grow with us! Pay is not good. Hours were cut, and I barely made any money.
A few co-workers were unfriendly and wolves in sheeps clothing. Store manager was nice.. It cuts. But if I used it every weekend, I would want something better. I also have a Chicago Electric oscillating multifunction tool I bought there. If you need to cut a quarter-inch off the bottom of some woodwork to put down a floor, this is the easiest tool for that job.
If you need to cut an opening in the wall to put in a network cable or coax, this tool will do it in seconds. If you want a piece of junk, get the Harbor Freight ultrasonic cleaner. It did a great job, but it broke about the 10th time I used it. The key with tools like these is to read the reviews, especially the critical ones. If you can live with the shortcomings, buy it. Harbor Freight has introduced some higher-end brands like Warrior, Bauer and Hercules.
These are better than Chicago Electric in addition to being more expensive. Hercules compares better to Porter Cable or Rigid. So the newer upmarket lines are much better than the Chicago Electric tools that made Harbor Freight in famous.
Are they as good as the ones from any other store? Then maybe. I use drill spades quite a bit, and I ended up buying a set from Harbor Freight because I needed two different sizes and the set from Harbor Freight cost less than buying the two bits I needed elsewhere.
That was a nice surprise. Sometimes you can find a cheaper toolbox somewhere else, even. But the cheaper toolbox will be lighter duty, though it may have a better brand name stamped on it.
Maybe a costlier organizer will be made of a more durable plastic, but not always.
