Remove shutdown from start menu windows server 2008
Is there a way to remove the shutdown button from the start menu? Most of our machines are XP, I know its possible in Windows 7. Can someone steer me in the right direction? This was stolen from MS's site regarding locking down a Terminal Server Does 2k8 use the same GPMC console as 2k?
I've done the same here for XP clients - under 2k3's gpmc console, at least, it was under. There's an option there for "Remove and prevent access to the Shut Down command," and probably some other items you'd be interested in. Hey guys, thanks for the feedback, I dont want them to lose access to "Restart" I am just battling with them shutting down their computers when they leave.
From looking at grou policy it doesn't appear you can seperate the two Yea, that is extremely unfortuneate, ah well I hope to upgrade the XP machines to 7 soon then solve all my problems. Thanks so much for the help, by the way, is there a "group policy" group in the spiceworks community?
This option allows you to assign the shutdown right to certain user groups. I like this solution, especially because it is a Computer setting and not a User setting. Unfortunately, it still disables the restart button too Close the GPMC editor. We have got a OU called Test which includes few users. On one of the client machines, login with the user account that is a part of Test OU or the OU at which the policy was applied.
When you login and click on Start you see that options such as Shut Down , Restart, Sleep, and Hibernate are not available for the user. The policy also works fine on Windows 10 client computers.
I only want to create a domain gp for shut down only but user can log off and restart their computer. Any reason why this applied fine to Windows 10 machines but does not apply to my Windows 7 machines? But this is not working for me on windows server This message confirm that our group policy to remove run from start menu is deployed successfully. Please share your experience in the comments section, if you have deployed the policy or remove shutdown from start menu or planning to do the same in near future.
Can we still shutdown the computer using Command prompt if we disable or remove Shutdown from the Start menu using the GPOs. Skip to content. Group Policy WindowsServerR2.
